A new image has been uploaded! The Gabriela Mistral Nebula, NGC 3324, has been processed with a modified Hubble Color Palette. The intention, as usual, is to try to reveal more detail in areas where two or more different gases overlap and grasping the differences are hard to see.

Hi all,

 

After a brief period without new images, I have uploaded a new image. This time, it means a new view of an old chap. The Lagoon Nebula, M08, taken originally in narrowband, has been reprocessed in a different color mapping. Each master file (Ha, OIII, SII) has been deconstructed into six (or seven) different layers with different image density. Then, all layers have been mapped to different colors (19). The result is an image that reveals different compositions and different intensities.

This time, another emission nebula, N11, located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, has been uploaded to the web site. This nebula has a remarkably high rate of new stars being born. In the center of the image, you will see the Bean Nebula, that was the target for a well known ESO image. You will find it at:

This time, I have uploaded an animation. It is the result of an interesting project that I have done together with Don Goldman: the expansion of NGC 2736, a nebula that is part of the Vela Supernova Remnant. In the web site, you will find many more details of what we did, as well as the animation that shows that the Heavens are far less “immutable” than usually thought of. They change, but they take their time… Take a look into:

Following some comments from a good friend, Aleix Roig, the image of M16 has been completely reprocessed. I have found a flaw in the algorithm I was using to get the raw frames aligned, and now the image shows its full, crisp resolution, with enough detail in critical areas (like the Pillars of Creation, the Bok globules…).

Hi all,

Another image has been uploaded. This time, it’s a galaxy, NGC 1532, belonging to the Fornax Group, the same as NGC 1365 (also in the web site) and NGC 1316 (already imaged and “in process”).

This time, I have added a “divertimento”, because this galaxy does not have a popular name, and I think that it has a clear resemblance to… Take a look at the website and judge for yourselves… Disregarding the divertimento, the galaxy is very beautiful.

Hi all,

This time, the uploaded image is a planetary nebula, that owes its beauty to its simplicity. Abell 33 is a spherical, bluish planetary nebula in the constellation Hydra. Its color is mainly due to the OIII emission and it has been imaged with narrowband filters. The data of this object have been taken by Don Goldman, with whom I am happy to share both time and data of his telescope.

Hi all,

A new image, this time NGC 1999, has been uploaded. This nebula is very interesting for several reasons. It is located in the Orion area and is currently the birthplace of many stars. There are at least 13 Herbig Haro objects in the image and… it is one of the most beautiful objects I have ever imaged!
