The Tarantula Nebula has been uploaded

Hi all,

Just a few minutes ago, two images of the Tarantula Nebula have been uploaded. In fact, it is one image with two different ways of processing, stressing different properties in each case.

You will see that this image is the combination of about 40 hours of imaging in narrowband and RGB. The processing took about half that time. I started imaging it last year 2015 and finished it just a few days ago. You can find the images at:

NGC 3576, the Statue of Liberty Nebula, has been selected as AAPOD

I am very happy to share with you, that the image of NGC 3576, the Statue of Liberty Nebula, has been selected as Amateur Astronomy Picture of the Day (AAPOD) on October 20, 2016. Please find it at the link below:

A unique Supernova Remnant is in the bag…

Hi all,

 

Another image has been uploaded. This time it is a Supernova remnant, SNR, whose data were captured by Don Goldman, with whom I am sharing his excellent scope located in the SSO in Australia. He got a very high quality set of data and now, I have processed them and uploaded to this web site. It’s worth to visit this image in his web site, where he included a lot of additional information about this nebula.

A new image! NGC 55-Caldwell 72

Hi all,

 

A new image has been uploaded! This time, it is a galaxy. As medium-sized barred Magellanic spiral galaxy, located at only 7 Million light-years. This is why, even being not a large galaxy, we can see a lot of detail in it and many individual clusters and even stars. It is seen edge-on, and despite having many red Hydrogen clouds, the rate of star formation is low.

A new image has been posted! (M20)

Hi all!

 

A new image has been uploaded! This time, it concerns M20, the Trifid Nebula. There was already another image of M20 in the web site, but this one has a couple of characteristics that might improve the previous one. Firstly, it is mainly a narrowband image (compared to the usual LRGB images of this object), and secondly, in order to get a more “real-natural” image, broadband Blue images have been blended with the OIII frames, in an attempt to capture all blue nebular wisps. The narrowband filters allow for a better contrast/resolution. Judge for yourselves:

M 27 reprocessed. A definitive version

Hi all,

 

A reprocessed version of M 27 (taken with the astounding Schulman Telescope, 32″) has been uploaded. This version has been reprocessed giving a higher importance to the RGB and a bit (just a bit…) less to the H alpha. The same subframes have been used and it is only a very different way of interpreting the image. I think it is worth to give a look at it:
