A remarkable nebula: IC 4685

Hi all,

 

Another image has been uploaded! It is IC 4685, an image containing several nebulae (emission/reflection/dark) in it. The image has been taken in narrowband and combined so as to reproduce the nebula’s natural colors. The presence of IC 1274 (a blue reflection nebula) has been solved by taking broadband blue subframes and blending them into the OIII and Halpha masters in order to get a better reproduction of this kind of nebula. The narrowband images account for the enhanced details.

 

I want to thank Don Goldman (I am his telescope partner) for his invaluable help in blending the blue master with the rest of the color data. His patience with me knows no limits and he immediately responded my cry for help…

Recovering the pace… A new image has been uploaded: M 83

Hello everybody!

 

A new image has been uploaded! M 83, the Southern Pinwheel galaxy has been imaged, together with the star stream LEDA 166170, in what is (up to my knowledge) the first amateur image to capture both objects. In order to be able to do this, the images taken with two separate amateur telescopes have been blended. More info here:

A new image: The Pelican Nebula, fragment.

Hi all,

 

Another image has been uploaded: IC 5067-IC 5070, the Pelican Nebula. This image has been taken with the Schulman Telescope, an excellent 32 inch RC telescope atop Mount Lemmon, AZ, USA. Given the quality of the original data, I have taken special care in its processing, trying, as usual, to keep the original colors as well as extract as much detail as possible. Two new images have been uploaded! Vela CNR and NGC 2736

Hi all,

 

Two new images have been uploaded. The first one is the wide field image of the Vela Supernova Remnant (SNR), that you can find at:

The second one is NGC 2736, the Pencil Nebula (taken with the 20″) that you will find at:

Both images have been taken through narrowband filters (Ha and OIII), except for the stars, that have been taken through RGB filters (as usual).

There will be two more images of fragments of the Vela SNR taken with the 20″. They are currently being processed and will be uploaded soon.

Still another image! The Thor’s Helmet

A new image has been uploaded. This time it concerns NGC 2359, the Thor’s Helmet Nebula.  It is a beautiful emission nebula, imaged in narrowband (HII and OIII). Being a Hydrogen and Oxygen rich nebula, these two filters should provide the “natural” color. In my opinion, this is the case…

A new image has been uploaded: M 8

Hello!

A new image has been uploaded. It is the emission nebula Messier 8, or the Lagoon Nebula. This image has subframes taken during 2015 and 2016. It is a narrowband image, processed with much the same color palette used for NGC 3372, trying to reproduce the natural spectrum of the nebula.  The stars were blended from an RGB image.

A new image of NGC 3372 (Eta Carina)

An image of the core region of the Eta Carina Nebula has been added to the web site. This image has been taken with narrowband filters Ha, OIII and SII (except for the stars, RGB). The colors have not been assigned following the Hubble Color Palette, but trying to follow the natural spectrum of this nebula. An explanation is in the below posted link. Enjoy!
