IC 2948. THE RUNNING CHICKEN NEBULA. A DETAIL

Click on the image for a larger version The Running Chicken Nebula (IC 2948) is a large HII emission region located in the constellation Centaurus. In this web site, you can find two more versions of this nebula. A wide field 3×3 degrees image taken with the TOA 130, showing the nebula in its entirety and a close-up of the central part of the nebula, taken with the CDK20. This image depicts a beautiful structure located on the Western rim of the Nebula. I have found that it resembles many objects, like the Philadelphian “Liberty Bell” showing even its upper “crack”… This region is a very active star birth area. Shown below is a fragment of this image, that contains two structures that might be related to the star formation. On the lower right of center, an arc that can be taken for a Herbig-Haro object (nevertheless, no HH object has been described in these coordinates…), as well an apparent “proplyd” on the upper left corner:
