NGC 4565 is one of the so-called classic “edge-on” galaxies. This galaxy was missed by Messier and was discovered by Herschel. It is quite bright and large and a conspicuous dust lane crosses across the nucleus of the galaxy. In this web page you will be able to see several other edge-on galaxies, notably M 104 and NGC 891.
