M 08 with the Hubble Color Palette (HCP)

This time, M 08 has been processed with the Hubble Color Palette (HCP). In this color mapping, Halpha is assigned Green, OIII is assigned Blue and SII is Red. This kind of false color helps discern the different gases in the nebula, much better than only RGB broadband colors. The toll to pay is an “unnatural” color depiction, but aesthetically beautiful.
