Hi all,
A new image has been uploaded. IC 2220 is an unusual reflection nebula, it is not blue but reddish orange. This is due to the fact that the nebular gas is reflecting the light of a Red Giant. But this image has an additional object around IC 2220, a bubble-like nebulosity that is extremely faint and only captured in images taken with an Halpha filter (very unusual to capture reflection nebulae). I have not yet found any mention, image or reference to these bubbles. I will keep you posted if I find anything. As my daughter Anna (10 years old) was the first one to notice it, I have dubbed these bubbles: Anna’s Nebula (also with some father’s pride…).
You will find the image and the explanations at:
Enjoy,
Josep
Thanks for sharing this non ordinary object. I’m willing to see how this fantastic history ends. Sometimes the discoveries come in such a non expected way. It would be amazing if finally it confirms to be a new object. Anna can be very proud of it anyway. Congrats!!
