A new image, this time the Eagle nebula, M16, has been uploaded. It is a narrowband image and has been processed, as usual, in the color palette that reconstructs the visible spectrum of this nebula. A mention of and comparison with (only color-wise, not resolution-wise!!) the famous Hubble Pillars of Creation is also added.

Hi all,

 

A wonderful nebula has been uploaded. NGC 3576 is an emission nebula in the constellation Carina. This image has been taken in narrowband (Ha, OIII and SII), by my telescope partner Don Goldman, whom I am thankful for allowing me to use and process this image. The processing has been, as usual, trying to reproduce the original visible spectrum of this nebula. More about it here:

This image breaks a tradition in the latest images I have posted: it is not a Nebula!! NGC 4833 is a globular cluster that is considered to be one of the oldest globulars in our galaxy. It is considered to be older than M 5, itself about 13 billion years old!. You can find it at:

Hi All,

An image of NGC 6188 (together with its associated open cluster, NGC 6193) has been already uploaded. This narrowband image (only Ha and OIII, no SII this time) shows extraordinary detail in the “rim” area. This nebula is usually processed in the Hubble Color Palette (HCP) rather than in natural color, but I prefer this color palette and this is what you fill find at:

Hi all,

I have just uploaded a new image. This time, NGC 3324, the Gabriela Mistral Nebula (due to the resemblance of it to the face of the Chilean Nobel Prize Laureate), an emission nebula that is part of the Eta Carinae Nebula complex. It is a narrowband image that, as usual, has been processed as to reproduce the natural optical spectrum of the nebula. Remarkable in this image is that the OIII emission (teal-bluish in color) is quite strong in the “face” area, and it better shows the “face” of Gabriela Mistral than in regular RGB images.

Hi all,

 

Another image has been uploaded! It is IC 4685, an image containing several nebulae (emission/reflection/dark) in it. The image has been taken in narrowband and combined so as to reproduce the nebula’s natural colors. The presence of IC 1274 (a blue reflection nebula) has been solved by taking broadband blue subframes and blending them into the OIII and Halpha masters in order to get a better reproduction of this kind of nebula. The narrowband images account for the enhanced details.

 

I want to thank Don Goldman (I am his telescope partner) for his invaluable help in blending the blue master with the rest of the color data. His patience with me knows no limits and he immediately responded my cry for help…

A new image has been uploaded. IC 2948 is a wonderful nebula and it has been imaged in narrowband. This allows extracting its full potential of detail and 3D feel, while displaying its “natural” colors.

Hello everybody!

 

A new image has been uploaded! M 83, the Southern Pinwheel galaxy has been imaged, together with the star stream LEDA 166170, in what is (up to my knowledge) the first amateur image to capture both objects. In order to be able to do this, the images taken with two separate amateur telescopes have been blended. More info here:

Another image has been uploaded: IC 5067-IC 5070, the Pelican Nebula. This image has been taken with the Schulman Telescope, an excellent 32 inch RC telescope atop Mount Lemmon, AZ, USA. Given the quality of the original data, I have taken special care in its processing, trying, as usual, to keep the original colors as well as extract as much detail as possible.
