An image of a superbubble, N206, has been uploaded

Hi all,

An image of N206, a Hydrogen superbubble located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, has been uploaded. This nebula contains many peculiarities, like a conspicuous SNR (supernova remnant), a less conspicuous SNR and dozens of very massive stars, including a Wolf-Rayet.

You can find more info and the image at:

N206, a superbubble in the LMC

Enjoy,

An image of the Northern Pencils has been uploaded

Hi all,

An image of the Northern Pencils, a fragment of the Veil Nebula in Cygnus, has been uploaded. The crisscrossing structures are not very rare in SNRs like this one. This structures have some resemblance with the Pencil Nebula (NGC 2736), that why the nickname…

You can find the image and some more info at:

The Northern Pencils

Enjoy,
Josep

An image of NGC 2438 and the Calabash has been uploaded

Hi all,

An image of NGC 2438 and the Calabash Nebula has been uploaded. This is a very interesting pair of a planetary nebula (NGC 2438) seen against the background stars of the open cluster Messier 46 and the Calabash Nebula, a faint protoplanetary nebula that indeed belongs to M46. You can see much more information and the full resolution image at:

NGC 2438 and the Calabash

Enjoy!

An image of NGC 2014 and its companions has been uploaded

Hi all,

An image of NGC 2014 and its many companions has been uploaded. This image, a joint project with Christian Sasse, has been taken from Chile and depictsw several beautiful and interesting nebulae located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. You can find more information and the image at:

NGC 2014 and NGC 2035

Enjoy!

An image of IC 443, the Jellyfish Nebula has been uploaded

Hi all,

An image of a supernova remnant, IC 443, has been uploaded. This region hosts not only IC 443, but at least two more supernova remnants. The image is a 2×2 mosaic adding up an total exposure of over 97 hours.

You can find the image and more detailed information at:

IC 443. The Jellyfish Nebula

Enjoy!

An image of the rare LHA 120-N44 nebular complex has been uploaded

Hi all,

An image of the nebular complex LHA 120-N44 has been uploaded. This image has been taken from Chile, together with my friend Christian Sasse. This image shows a complex of many different nebula types (supernova remnants, emission nebulae rich in Halpha, emission nebulae rich in OIII, Wolf-Rayet mass ejections…) You can find it at:

LHA 120-N44

Enjoy,
Josep

A new image from a new big project

Hi all,

A new image of NGC 346 and NGC 371 has been uploaded. This image is the first result (out of many more to come) of a new joint set of projects that Christian Sasse and I have started. The images will be taken with a 24 inch telescope, located in Obstech, Chile, under what is, probably, the best dark sky for astrophotography. Moreover, this sky allows the use of cameras with a small pixel size without getting any oversampling. The resolution of this equipment is just below 0.2 arcsec/pixel.

This image was taken with narrowband filters (Halpha and OIII). You can find the image at:

NGC 346 and NGC 371

We hope you enjoy it.

A mosaic of the complete Messier Collection has been uploaded

Hi all,

Finally, I have completed the only remaining image of the complete Messier Collection: a mosaic including all objects without any repetition. All images have been taken only with large aperture (but still amateur) telescopes. To my knowledge, this is the only such collection made by amateurs. Instead of preparing a simple mosaic depicting all objects in order in a 10×11 grid, in this mosaic, the objects gather by color and shape to form one of the objects: M16, the Eagle Nebula. You can find it (the link to the detailed images of the complete collection can be found at the bottom of the introduction) at:

Messier Collection Intro

An image of Messier 88 has been uploaded

Hi all,

An image of Messier 88, a spiral galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices, has been uploaded.

This image marks the final point in the taking, processing and uploading ALL Messier objects but all of them taken only with large amateur telescopes. Please, stay tuned, because in the coming days I will upload two important pages. First, I will upload a specific page with images and links to all Messier objects, ordered by number. Second, I will upload an introduction to this whole work, with some statistics, and third, I will prepare and upload a poster displaying all 110 Messier objects (most probably not ordered by number).

Now, Messier88 is located at:

Messier 88. NGC 4501

Enjoy,
Josep
